Bhimtal in the Monsoon!

Not many know about the charm of spending a relaxing weekend in Bhimtal during the monsoon. It's relatively dry, with only a few spells of rain during the day, it's green all around and the weather is cool and pleasant.

Here are some answers to questions you might have about travelling to Bhimtal in the monsoon!

Is it safe to visit Bhimtal in the monsoon?

The floods in the Garhwal region this year have discouraged many travellers to set foot across Uttarakhand, but the truth is the monsoon does not affect Bhimtal and Kumaon too much. It doesn’t rain in Bhimtal as much as in the Garhwal belt. One can expect only a few short spells during the day and there are no torrential showers.

Guests who’ve stayed with us this season have had no issues while travelling to and from Bhimtal. The roads were clear, with no landslides, and their stay at The Retreat was very comfortable.

What are the activities one can do in the monsoon?

You can still enjoy most of the summer activities in the monsoon season. Here are some we recommend:

1)      One can go for short hikes and drives in this weather

2)      Visit the Kumaon Lok Sangrahalaya (Folk Art and Culture Museum) – a 15-minute drive from The Retreat

3)      Enjoy a picnic lunch in the woods or by the lake

And if it’s raining, then you can stay indoors and unwind, sip some tea, enjoy some snacks or indulge in some fun workshops!

(These are very popular with kids and easy too!)

Workshops at The Retreat

Paddy is not only a wonderful host but is also accomplished at cooking & baking. She also makes delicious home-made jams! She can teach you how to do it too, just let her know in advance that you'd like to have one of the following workshops:

1)  Baking workshop

2)  Cooking workshop

3)  Jam making workshop – make home-made jams, using fresh seasonal fruits like apples & pears. You can also take them home with you!

Make the most of your monsoon weekend

Bhimtal is more serene and quiet compared to its crowded neighbours, Nainital & Mussorie, and it is only a few hours from Delhi! You can choose to take the overnight Ranikhet Express to arrive early on Saturday morning, or come by Volvo or drive down yourself and arrive to enjoy a fresh, hot lunch prepared for you at The Retreat. Spend your weekend here, relax and unwind in the serene hills, enjoy the warm and friendly hospitality and go back just in time to start your work week, all refreshed and recharged!

What's more, we are offering you a special monsoon discount: Book a room at The Retreat for just Rs 2,500 per night!

(Not applicable for long weekends & public holidays like Independence Day, Janmasthmi etc.)
